Joint SAR Team searches for victims of crash of ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed in Maros, South Sulawesi, Sunday (18/1/2026). A joint SAR team found debris believed to be from an Indonesian Air Transport ATR 42-500 plane that was reported missing with 10 people on board on the slopes of Mount Bulusaraung.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Directorate General of Air Transport of the Ministry of Transportation confirmed the evacuation process of ATR 42-500 aircraft is now the main focus. Basarnas, together with a joint military and police force and local community support, is currently evacuating in the area of Mount Bulusaraung, located on the border of Maros Regency and Pangkajene Kepulauan Regency (Pangkep), South Sulawesi.
“On Sunday (January 18, 2026) at 11:59 p.m., the Basarnas Crisis Center Command Post received information that one dead body of a male was found and immediately evacuated,” Lukman said in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday (19/1/2026).
Based on the surveillance data and the results of the clearance inspection, Lukman said, ATR 42-500 aircraft with PK-THT registration were declared to meet the licensing requirements.
This was supported by the implementation of the last ramp check and inspection carried out on November 19, 2025 at Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado, by the Compliance Inspector of the Office of the VIII Manado Airport Authority.
Lukman said that the aircraft had also undergone a Certificate of Airworthiness/C of A Extension inspection on September 3, 2025 and the last inspection by the operator Indonesia Air Transport (IAT) was carried out in accordance with the maintenance program Calendar Month 4.5 MO for a total flight time of 24,959.62 flight hours, on December 25, 2025.
“The data shows that the aircraft has undergone regular inspections and regulatory inspections at regular intervals and in accordance with applicable regulations,” Lukman said.
